Some sign (chawing + droppings) of elk
at head of Mackay Creek in winter or
at least early spring. - very few though
perhaps 3 or 4 head.
Vermilion Crossing [underlined]:- June 28/43 [1943].
Death - Predators [underlined]:- Along the Kootenay in
1920. Wm [William] Yearling found a dead
bull elk + a dead Mt [Mountain] lion near
each other. There had apparently
been quite a fight + the lion was
badly bruised + gored. The elk
had got its antlers tangled in
some roots + down timber finally
+ the lion had made the kill
before dying. Reported by J.J. Meredith
