- Journal.
Byng Pass. Aug. [August] 24/43. [1943]
Rode here from Hoodoo Cabin. about 7 miles.
Made camp about a mile west of the
summit of the pass close to three
licks used by moose + caribou.
The pass is a wide + open one
Scrub timber extends to about 6800
ft [feet] but above that is only rolling
grass + forb covered uplands with
lakelets here + here. On the north
these lead back to crags of grey +
red quartzite. On the south the
mts. [mountains] are mixed quartz-volcanic
rock + shale + shale slides are
the most prominent feature.
Game seen:- 15 caribou
2 moose.
Birds:- 1 peregrine, 2 golden cr. [crowned] sparrows
2 sparrow hawks, 5 Gambel's " [sparrows]
2 Audubon warblers. 5 pipits.

A beautiful day with but two light
showers. Mickey Mcguire, warden of
the district came up to visit us.
Damn good chap with sound ideas.
Worked part of the region south of
us.
Game seen: 11 caribou (probably 6 same as yesterday)
2 moose (same as yesterday)
