Journal.
the running.
Okanagan Falls. July 16/51 [1951]
Spent large part of today on the hill
behind (E [east] of) Vasseaux Lake working on
the sheep range. At the higher
elevation the range is poor on
the drier sites with spear grass Bromus tectorum [inserted above]
(oat grass) dominant + useless as food
as it has almost no vegetative growth
In the more moist sites there is
a good stand of Agropyron inerme with
50% + carryover. Along the road to
McIntyre Canyon found a good
Stipa [underlined] range, awns mostly shed.
Ok. [Okanagan] Falls. July 17/51 [1951]
In the field at 6:30 this morning +
laid off at noon. Very hot- up to 100
in the shade at Oliver.
Saw 10 [female symbol] + 9 lamb sheep on N [north] bluff
at Vasseaux
Later drove down to outlet of McIntyre
Creek + hiked up the canyon about a
mile. Then climbed out on N [north] side +
came back over the ridges. Found
a colony of about 12 prs [pairs] white-throated
swifts in first big cliff of Canyon.
Plenty of deer + sheep sign on bluffs,
but almost no cattle chips. Horse dropping
now numerous.
Marginalia: Plantago hookeriana
small silky headed
animal.
