- Canis lupus. [underlined]
Jasper, Alta [Alberta] April 16/43 [1943]
According to warden reports 8
wolves wintered in the area adjacent
to Devona. Within a mile of the
cabin 4 kills - 3 [female symbol] deer + one old ram
sheep had been pulled down.
Four of the wolves killed + cleaned
up a doe deer in about 3 hours.
They broke only a few of the larger
bones.
Six wolves were seen on Pyramid
lake this winter and 6 were working
the Decoigne region about once a month.
Possibly the same group. There were
wolves in the Whirlpool valley - reported
by Warden
Found an elk kill on Henry House
flats + another at mile 38 that were
apparently the work of wolves, though
the latter had the head chewed up
which might suggest bear.
