[Henry Eeles] Dresser, Monograph of the Coraciidae L [pounds] 20
[William Vincent] Legge, Birds of Ceylon, 2 vols. [volumes] L [pounds] 30.
London. Dec [December] 2/52 [1952].
Had a good night's sleep of some 11 hours
+ feel quite differently about life in general.
Started the day with a short session at
Nuffield Foundation from which I made
appointments to see P. [J] Z [John Zachary] Young tomorrow
+ Mr [Archer John Porter] Martin of the Royal Society at 3:30 today.
Then took a bus to Piccadilly, went to the
bank where I deposited my L [pounds] 56-13-4 cheque to
be transferred to the resident Acct. [Accountant] at Edinburgh
From there to bus 9 (76 a would have been better)
+ went to the Natural History museum.
There I had a brief session with [Sir Gavin Rylands] De Beer,
the Director, a short, friendly but rather
pompous little man, I gather now doing
nothing but administration as he would not
talk about technical matters but passed me
on a [as] quickly as politeness made possible
to Mr [Francis Charles] Fraser the cetologist. With him
I met Mr [Hampton Wildman] Parker the keeper of mammals +
Mr [Terence] Morrison-Scot. [Hampton Wildman] Parker is doing no
mammology any more - [Francis Charles] Fraser has been busy
with the Ziphiidae + seems to be a progressive
+ active man in the old systematic school.
