A few Microtus signs with fresh cuttings
formed on east side of River below bridge
on flat. Most of this flat has recently been
flooded + there are very few signs of small
mammals. Tracks of two or three deer
along flat on each side of river. In evening
[Ian McTaggart] Cowan secured three Jumping mice, a Microtus
drummondi + a Lincoln sparrow from traps.
Shot a Hermit Thrush in late evening + heard
+ saw some half dozen more. No night-
hawks or owls seen about here.
Rabbit tracks seen in a number of places
but no well defined runways. Saw a rabbit
last night near summit by side of road
+ this evening Cowan saw another not far
from camp. - Chipmunks - Luteiventris
seen about camp, one very tame. Of three
taken by [Ian McTaggart] Cowan two were fairly typical
but the third rather pale beneath. Found
two interesting flowers today, a considerable
patch of Calypso on east side of river
above camp + an Anemone in the bog
half a mile below camp, east side of River.
Collected a Trail Flycatcher in willows
below camp + a [male symbol] Audubon Warbler on
hill east of camp also saw the [female symbol]. A "Perry" [Peromyscus]
seen flying about camp in morning. Several
flickers seen + one, a [male symbol] collected - a breeding
bird.
