Left Vanderhoof this morning
at 8:30 it started to rain
soon after + most of the
day we ran through much
with the car dragging bottom
+ the chains churning through
the muddy ruts. Caught the
2 o'clock ferry across Francois
Lake + arrived in Ootsa at
about 4 o'clock.
Near Fort Fraser saw
several Nuchal Sapsuckers.
+ white crowned sparrows.
Country from Fort Fraser
west is much better
looking country than
any east of that point,
many scattered stands of
spruce on the hills + in the
bottoms. Along watercourses
grasses of willows + alder.
Between Francois + Ootsa
there is an area of very
interesting open country;
rolling uplands with aspen
lined gullies + scattered
aspen clumps reminiscent
of the country in the
