  • be a 6 ft [foot] level at its height. Color photo - large lake at [Bert] Boxer's camp ice breaking up. 8 mi [mile] N. [North] Aklavik June 11/47 [1947] Today, bright and warm in morning 92 [degree symbol] sun temp [temperature], cold + very windy this afternoon + evening. Shade temp. [temperature] at 9 PM. 42 [degree symbol]. bright sun. Set out 14 live traps baited with apple. Each is set at a spot where rats were seen feeding or entering a burrow. The ice is rapidly melting on the lakes. It should be gone in 2 days more. Delta. [underlined] June 12/47 [1947]. Our traps held 2 rats [male symbol] + [female symbol], one had upset the trap + drowned itself. Took a [female symbol] for examination. Falling water + the storm had spoiled several of our sets + it seems that these rats do not like apple particularly. We ran the traps in the morning, worked in camp all afternoon + then went out again from 7-10 PM. Cold miserable night (40 [degree symbol]) with high wind, very little rat activity Set out all our traps (24) half baited with apple, half with potato.
