May 23/44 [1944] On the way in here we saw fresh grizzly tracks at Shalebanks + near here. Rufe Neighbor + Jud Groat - outfitters express the conviction that bear are increasing, particularly east of the mountains. Neighbor says he would never come into the mountains after bear now, but would bait them near his ranch at Entrance. Blue Creek. May 28/44. [1944] Saw a medium sized, silver-tip grizzly yesterday. It came down to the lake to drink at about 11 AM. Later we found its kill - a two year old bull moose dead about a week All the cow moose around the lake are highly nervous, possibly because of the presence of this bear Topaz Shelter May 29/44. [1944] A great deal of fresh digging + some fairly fresh tracks along the way. Byng Creek. May 31/44 [1944] A dropping today included hair + hoof of a calf moose - not a stillborn Another dropping consisted of [illegible word].
