- Ovis canadensis [underlined]
Minnewanka Cabin. June 6/43 [1943].
Saw two young rams right at
cabin. This is summer range. Not
Foo [word crossed out] enough grass, or grass of the right
type for winter range. Sidehill rough
+ stony.
Food. At the moment they appear to
be feeding heavily on the 3 leguminous
vetch like plants.
Banff. Alta. [Alberta] June 7/43 [1943]
Census En route Minnewanka Cabin to Bankhead
saw 21 sheep. Of these 1 was a 3 yr [year] [male symbol],
2 old ewes + 3 young ewes. Others not
sexed or aged.
Habits:- At the cabin 4 sheep came down +
began eating an old cardboard carton.
It was apparently relished + was
vigorously fought for. The 3 yr [year] old
ram dominated the others but
one yng. [young] ewe fought back by
butting until the ram caught her
off guard + hit her hard on
the left shoulder. She limped
for several minutes thereafter.
In fighting the two often reared
up on their hind legs before
bringing their heads together.
Bryant Cr. [Creek] June 14/43 [1943]
[James (Jim)] Simpson once saw a single ram
on the mt [mountain] just east of this valley
It was on the S. [south] end.
