Victoria to Bould [Boulder] Point + return
approx [approximately] 52 miles. Once past Sooke
the weather was cold + windy, without
rain. The road runs through
logged off land growing up
with mixed deciduous conifer
forest now about 20-30 ft [feet]
high. North of Jordan River the
country is as yet unlogged + presents
a good example of climax
coniferous forest Western Hemlock
cedar and Sitka Spruce.
Birds scarce - walked 2 miles
along beach + saw:
10 song sparrows
2 Lincoln [word crossed out] Savannah sparrows
(1 alaudinus + 1 sandwichensis)
2. Winter wrens.
4. Crows
16. Glaucous winged Gull.
6. Pied-billed Grebe
8. Kildeer [Killdeer]
1 Heron
1 Sharp-shinned Hawk.
