The rats in the marsh
do not appear to build
houses but live in
burrows in the bank
of the [word crossed out] a ditch like
arm that goes about 100
yds [yards] back from the main
pond. In the places where
the voles had been, little
piles of young reed [illegible word crossed out]
ends were to be seen.
Took a large female
Peromyscus in the sandy
area on the reserve. Vegetation
consists almost entirely of
Wild rose, tumbleweed a
few cottonwood and some
milkweed. There were four
very young mice standing
by the mother. These mice
have their eyes open + can
run about. They show no
fear of me at all and
climb all over me.
