- Black Bear.
Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke B.C. [British Columbia] July 2nd 3rd + 4th 1937.
Quite a few rather old signs of bear
have been noticed by both [Ian McTaggart] Cowan + myself
where they have been digging out
ground squirrels
July 5/37 [1937]. Found droppings about mile from
camp on S.E. [southeast] slope alt [altitude] 6000'. Consisted of ants
+ fir leaves.
July 21, 1937 - 2400 ft. [feet], Heavy cedar
growth quarter of a mile below cabin
In on [one] large hollow cedar found the
winter bed of a black bear. There was
a large quantity of bedding material,
leaves, pine needles, cedar tips etc [etcetera].
+ the place where the bear curled up
could be plainly seen. Side elevation
about this
[drawing of tree base with hollow]
Several bushes of bedding material
filled the cavity. There were openings on
two sides of tree
