Rusty Song Sparrow. # 581e
May [space left blank] 1922 In company with Mr
H.L. Turnbull visited Terranova
Lulu Island.
Found a spparrows [sparrows] nest amongst
the tules near where a colony of
Tule's wrens were nested. Nest was
close to ground + not more than 3 or 4
meters above water at high tide. Contained
two young about a week old + one
infertile egg, which unfortunately got
broken. Nest was constructed of
tule leaves + stems + lined with grass in
the same manner as the RW [red-winged] blackbird
Feby [February] 21/24 [1924] Spring song heard by KELR [Kathleen Eileen Louise Racey],
first this year, at back of house
6/16/24 [1924] Everywhere common nesting
about Alpha, Nita + Alta Lakes but
only seen about swampy places + border
of lakes

Took a pair of song sparrows in willows
by side of Kettle Riv. [River] about 1/4 mi [mile] above
camp. Believe these to be typical "Inexpectata"
These were the only Song Sparrows seen
about here. The [male symbol] was in full song
Sea Isd [Island] B.C. [British Columbia] March 8/39 [1939]. Only three seen
