  • 63 chipmunk and a Pika. Seen to-day 2 Leucosticte, 2 Red-eyed Vireos, 2 Golden Eagle, 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 2 Olive sided Flycatchers, several Fox Sparrow Hermit thrush, Junco and Chipping Sparrows, 6 Gray Jays, 1 Pine Grosbeak, 1 Ruffed Grouse with brood. 8 Mile, Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke. July 17, 1937. In morning skinned yesterday's catch; in afternoon drove down to Arrowhead - 27 miles s. [south] of Revelstoke. On way, at Mile 3 on the Mt. [Mountain] Mr. [Kenneth] Racey was sure he saw a Marmota monax.[underlined] Near Arrowhead saw 1 Hairy Woodpecker, 1 Redstart, 2 Willow Thrush, 2 Olive-backed Thrush, 2 Red-eyed Vireos, 2 Warbling Vireos, 4 Robins, 1 Osprey, 3 Catbirds, 2 Vaux Swifts, 6 Eastern Kingbirds, 8 Crossbills, 4 Willow Grouse. The country is largely burned over, the main vegetation along the river is Black Poplar with some Aspen back from the river. Red Osier dogwood along the sloughs. Shot rabbit in the evening. 8 Mile, Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke. July 18, 1937. Raining most of the day, spent my time skinning then set out a few traps around the cabin.
