Before breakfast drove to Maligne Canyon
+ in afternoon drove to Mile 30 on
J.B. highway + returned in evening.
Very little game or wild life along
the route grizzly tracks wide spread
above falls + much wolf sign.
Saw a pair of Barrows Goldeneye on
one small lake but no others elsewhere
A pair of purple finches at [Frank] Wells cabin.

Sheep - 28
elk - 27
deer - 12
goat - 8
Above the falls there is grass emerging
with destruction of all small willows
+ aspens.
Snow very light this winter. Even
at the ice fields there was less than
a foot in the valley bottom.
At Edith Lake saw Lesser scaup, 4
shovellor + 5 Ruddy duck 2 [female symbol] + 3 [male symbol].
May 6, 1944.
Drove east + into Miette Hot Springs
counting sheep + other game. Sheep on
east side of valley.
Game seen 200 sheep. - not previously tallied
