To File a hand Saw 277
The majority of mechanics file towards
the handle. That leaves the teeth
with more bevel on the back side
than on the front, which is caused
by the taper of the file. A few
persons file thier Saws towards the
ooint, which gives more bevel to the
front or cutting side of the tooth.
the back side of the tooth should be
filed nearly square across; the
saw will cut Equally well and
remain sharp much longer. The
front side of the teeth should be
bevelled to suit the timber; soft
wood requires more vevel than hard
wood. A hand saw is only intended
to cut one way August 23 1873
Filing Hand Saws
Drop the handle of the file a little
and Elevate the point. It produces a
different and a longer and more
pointed tooth and furnishes more
space in which to carry the sawdust

Storm glass
It is not neccessary for the tube to be
full. When the liquid is clear; it is a
sign of fair weather. If the solid
particles rise on the liquid, it is a sign
of rain. Before a storm or very high
wind, the liquor will become thick Oct 11 1873
