- Westwick Lake Sunday, May 15, 1955
Weather: morning - fine; afternoon partly
cloudy; evening - fine.
When we got up this morning the
squirrel had built herself a nest from
the excelsior Nancy [Mahoney] gave her last night.
We think the little one is still there
because we heard it squeak.
This morning Nancy [Mahoney] and I walked
around Sorenson. There were five pairs [underlined]
of Grebes. We came home and had
lunch, and then went and collected
Violet buds by the first little pond
over the ridge S.E. [southeast] of Westwick. They
are later than the S.E. [southeast] facing bank
by Goldeneye Lake - probably because
they are in under the trees. Then
we canoed down the lake. The Grebes
are in much the same condition
as yesterday - unpaired. We saw
a wren's nest made of pond weed -
and one half made.
This morning while Nancy and I
were sitting watching Grebes on
Sorenson, a fellow drove up in a
green panel truck and stopped to
talk. He has some fabulous
photographic equipment, including
a (?) 400 mm [millimetre] lens. He said 'There's
a character (Tim [Miles Timothy Myres]) across the other
lake trying to take pictures.'
