  • 171 highway to collect birds. In his collection I noted several interesting records. Parus rufescens, P. [Parus] gambeli + P. [Parus] hudsonicus all from Wm's [Williams] Lake. Dendroica magnolia taken in the autumn migration. Zonotrichia atricapilla + Paserella iliaca zaboria taken at 130 mile this spring. At 134 mile saw a pair of European starlings. They are now nesting at Vernon, Lac du Bois, 134 mile + Onward Ranch at least. Found Mary Jackson alone + in good spirits Her work goes well with 3 Goldeneyes already on eggs. Mary [Jackson] has a hybrid drake Goldeneye. Kamloops. May 20, 1954. Drove here by way of Springhouse, Alkali Lake, Dog Creek + Grassy (meadow) Lake. Saw a pair of cinnamon teal on Alkali Lake along with many other ducks + 2 pelicans. Noted at many places along the way how the fir forest was advancing onto the cattle range. At one spot I took photographs to illustrate the rate of advance. I should work out the years on which these seeds germinated as there is good evidence of periodicity. Pat [Patrick Waldyve Martin] tells me that Meadow Lake is a great place for fish, ducks + sharptails in the fall.
