- Little Pillar Rock, + Dyke just south
of Lepas Bay.
June 9. [1961]
Partly sunny. Got an early start in
our boat + carried 10 gallons of gas
with us. Dropped the gas near Ells Pt. [Point]
for our trip to Marble Island in a week.
Noted about 6 pairs of eagles but found
only one nest, on Lina I. [Island], 100' up dead
Sitka, on NE [northeast] side, Saw 2 seals, 4 deer.
June 10 - Saturday
Rain + strong wind, clear p.m.
Heard no flight to Tasu today so in
pm [afternoon] drove with Athol [Atholl Sutherland Brown] to Tlell to
fish. Fishing by bridge lousey [lousy] so
tried above tide line where can [word crossed out] found
f.w. [freshwater] limpets last week. Equally poor
fishing here tho' [though] this time did discover
beaver sign (fresh alder cuttings) + saw
a smallish beaver whacking his tail
at close range. Burrow likely in the 6'
clay bank.
June 11 - Sun.
Heard no plane to Tasu 'till [until]
Tuesday so set traps on nearby
islands: 76 on Burnt I. [Island], 53 on
Legace
June 12 [1961]
Nil on Burnt I. [Island] So moved traps
to Claudet I [Island]. No mouse sign on
Burnt + even less on Claudet.
On Legace one shrew so added
30 more traps.
Wheel on Land Rover making
noise so took time out to
repair it.
June 13
Picked up traps. One more shrew
on Legace I [Island]. Plane to Tasu further
delayed so skinned out a siskin + a
tick covered Varied Thrush.
June 14.
Since Sunday our plane to Tasu
was always going to leave the next
day for sure [underlined]. Weather, cargo, or
some contrived reason always seems to
come along to thwart us. Today it was on-
off until finally, dicustedly [disgustedly], we set
out for Marble I [Island]. 3/4 hr [hour] to narrows.
Took time out to grow on grass
