6. Hooking of rats at the coast
on shallow Lakes with a deep
pocket in the middle.
Rev. [Reverend D.B.] Marsh confirms details
of this practice as conducted
by Tuk [Tuktoyaktuk] natives. Hot day.
Aklavik. July 3, 1947.
Ran up Husky Channel + climbed
Richardson Mts [Mountains] half way between
Red + Black Mts [Mountains]. Got caught in
a heavy storm + thoroughly
soaked on the way home.
This mountainous region is almost
devoid of life of any kind. The
species seen on the hill were
Tree Sparrows, Savannah Sparrows
and Groundsquirrels - a marked
contrast with the mts [mountains] to the
south. Raining
Aklavik. July 4, 1947
Boat arrived at last but brought
only part of our outfit + much of
that in poor condition. Skiff
is not seaworthy, canoe needs
painting, outboard motor will not
run.
