Clearwater Lakes Cabin July 13/43 [1943]
Very small patches of sheep range adjacent
to clearwater - a small grassy hill at head
of Indianhead Creek and another somewhat
larger area on Malloch Creek is about
all. Sheep do not range further up
the Clearwater than Mount Malloch
Big Flats, Pipestone R. [River][underlined] July 17/43 [1943]
On head of small creek coming
in from the east here is the western-
most sheep range in the park.
Saw a ewe + lamb; tracks numerous.
Kills [underlined]:- Found remains of lamb in
winter pelage. 3 pm lowers + first
molar just erupting. Looked a bit
like a predator kill. [James (Jim)] Simpson has
seen rams in here but sign
seen today indicates ewes + lambs
only.
Pipestone Cabin. July 19/43 [1943]
Today examined the small piece of
meadow on the SW [southwest] face of Mt [Mount] Cyclone
upon which [Percy] Woodworth 2 winters
ago saw 5 or 6 sheep wintering.
They found a dead one on the ice
of Drummond Creek with 6 coyotes
feeding on it. This is the westernmost
bit of sheep range in this region.
[Percy] Woodworth says there are still sheep
in summer on Johnson creek
well up to the head.
