Saw 3 elk [male symbol] [female symbol] + calf.
The male had antlers at least 2 ft [feet]
long + was 6 mi [miles] N [north] of town. Fresh
elk tracks all along the trail.

Saw 3 cow elk at the mouth of
Strawberry Creek. Ample sign of elk
wintering here
[Frank] Burstrom says that elk at Willow
creek this winter consisted of 14 bulls
+ 4 cows.

About 4 miles above Shalebanks on the
open sidehills saw 14 [female symbol], 1 yearling, 2 calves.

Saw one bull today, good condition,
shedding hard.

Rufe Neighbor tells me that 3 years ago
he brought 26 head of elk from Elk
Island Park + liberated them on his
ranch
Introduction of elk here in 1920
was 96 animals. Several later died.
They were liberated right at Jasper
Willow Creek. May 24/44 [1944].
At the head of Willow Creek found
tracks of 3 elk heading north toward
Rock Lake. Followed them for about 1/2
mile. They were travelling - not feeding.
