Clifford Murphy reports elk came in
here first in winter 1933-34
+ since then have increased
steadily until this last winter
50-60 head of bulls wintered
on the ranch. Nearest cows
reported by Phil. [Philip] Temple on
James Creek east of here.
Sign at corners indicates
a good population - an open
season should be declared.
before they get out of hand.

Divide Creek Cabin.
Left the ranch at 9:30 this
morning intending to come as far
as Scotch camp at the junction of
Divide creek + the Red Deer but
found the latter in Spate with
swimming water between us and
the cabin so came on here
Distance covered 21 to 22 miles.
Leaving the ranch the trail
passes through a burn for a mile
or two + then through spruce woods
until Tyrrel Creek is crossed. The
country then opens up into a
