Cure for Diptheria
Make a swab by twisting cotton round
a stick as large as a lead pencil.
This is dipped in a solution of the
"bichloride of mercury" 2 grains to 1 pint
of water and is passed into the throat
until it touches the posterior wall of
the pharynx. It is then instantly withdrawn
and burnt. No attempt is made to rub
off the membrane, but more or less
adheres to the swab. No swab should
be used a second time. Repeat every
hour, day and night until the decease [disease]
subsides. Follow Every application by the
internal administration of 5 or ten
minims of the tincture of chloride of
Iron, and as much milk and whisky
as the case demands. Bichloride of
Mercury is a sure antidote to the poison
of diptheria. May 7 1887 Medical Record
