- Ovis canadensis [underlined] Aug. [August] 4/43 [1943]
This range is peculiar in several
ways. The rams + ewes are all mixed
up - bands of each in sight of one
another. It is seriously over populated,
not that there is not the summer
feed for them but I cannot imagine
where there is enough winter range
to support these herds. Furthermore
the concentration is such that parasite
spread to the young stock is unavoidable
The only thing I can see is to first
make a thorough study of range +
distribution + then if available range
is found to get into this bunch
with shotguns + move them out
of here.
As to composition of bands
there is a shortage of yearlings apparent
also of 2 year olds. 3, 4, + 5 seem
numerous. + constitute about 1/2 the
rams seen, 6, 7 + 8 year olds another
1/3. I feel that the bulk of the
ewes + lambs are elsewhere.
