  • the lake there were Green Wing Teal and Widgeon [Wigeon]. There were 9 juvenile [male symbol] Buff [Buffleheads] on the lake; 14 [female symbol] or juvenile [male symbol] Goldeneye, and 1 adult [male symbol]. We banded two broods of tree swallows, and two bluebirds, and found a spotted sandpiper's nest with four eggs. There were about 25 semi-palmated (?) sandpipers in a flock There were two Bonaparte Gulls circling over a field at the far end of the lake. Tim [Miles Timothy Myres] found a sharp-tail grouse nest with 9 eggs. Betty [Cox] rode down after dinner. We packed Dr. [Ian McTaggart] Cowan's car with surplus equipment. Westwick Lake Saturday, July 9 Weather: fine - thunder storm in the afternoon. The professors left early this morning.
