Banff, Alta [Alberta]:-
Kills [underlined]:- Examined 1 dead ad [adult] bull, untouched though
dead since Jan. [January] or Feb. [February] blood from nostrils.
1 Cow - warden reports killed by Mt [Mountain] lion
in Kootenay. Coyotes have cleaned up everything.
Warden Meredith reports Conchies [conscientous objectors] found 3 carcases untouched
Associations:- watched elk + deer + elk + moose
together.
Antler shedding:- besides 8 spikes saw one
[male symbol] with antlers [drawing of antler] - 2 or 3 yr [year] old.
Saw another big [male symbol] with big tine
fork advanced
Disease:- Saw one sick bull at about mile 15
but did not shoot it for lack of time.
Banff. Alta [Alberta] June 2/43 [1943].
Found remains of a juv. [juvenile] dead during
the winter, at mouth of Red Earth Creek.
Almost all of both sexes are moulting
Saw one band of 21 of both sexes +
all ages. One cow was very noisy - she
was almost completely shed + seemed
to lead to band. She barked +
whistled loudly until I revealed
myself.
No antlers on
Census 43 (10 of them s [south] side).
All dry land willow areas
are overgrazed - with bushes
dying much faster than they are
replacing
