- Sooty Grouse
Alta Lake, B.C. August 23, 1941.
Watched a grouse for several minutes feeding
along Pemberton trail. It ate Equisetum arvense [horsetail]
8 minutes, unidentified insects 3 minutes,
clover 2 minutes.
Blueberries are also being eaten heavily
just now.
August 26, 1941. 3 birds seen, 2 shot, a [male symbol] and [female symbol] young
molting into 1st winter. Both remiges and
rectrices show molt pattern well.
Crops contained;
A. 100% Vacc. [Vaccinium] parvifolium berries (10)
B. 95% V. [Vaccinium] ovatum (4)
5% blackwood ants. (3)
Took a green lousefly from one of these.
