half way down the Island we
located a small cave - 8' x 4' x 4'
hidden by salmon berry bushes.
Inside this were the mouldering
remains of 4 Indian coffins. We
took one skull.
On the way back we shot a
Baird cormorant.
June 4 [1931]. Dick Guppy took us up
to a small lake on Meares Island
We followed the W. [west] shore of Dissapointment [Disappointment]
Inlet for about 3 miles to the mouth
of a small creek this we followed
inland for 1/4 mile to Limit Lake
The north end is shallow + mostly
grown over with Water Lillies [Lilies]
Here Salamanders (Triturus torosus)
were very common + 2 were
secured. Two large [Northern] Red-legged
Frogs were also taken. Two
dugouts on the lake. Stickleback
Fish common + one dead one secured.
On the way back we examined
a small rock off Knockers Island
on which were numerous
Microtus runs. [Dick] Guppy says all
the little isolated rocks are the
same.
