  • Journal. Cairn + several other knolls down the Cairn. Also says a band winter on the open grass on the East side of the Rocky at mile 43 - ie. 10 miles below here - + also small groups at several other points along the east side of the Rocky. Reports a band of about 75 head on a green slide on the N.E. [Northeast] side of Maligne Lake about 2 miles above the cabin. Saw grizzly signs aplenty today + some coyote sign. Game Seen:- Sheep:- 2 ewes. goat:- 5 sex unknown. Elk:- 9 [male symbol] 3 [female symbol] 3 calves 4 yearlings Moose:- 3 cows. Mule Deer:- 2 [male symbol] 4 [female symbol], 2 yearl. [yearling] [female symbol]'s Coyote 1. A large lick just before you come to the Rocky Forks cabin (about 1/2 mile S. [South]) A spring muck lick about 100 [number crossed out] 70 ft [feet] in diameter. Heavily used by elk moose + deer + [Edward] McDonald says a few sheep come down occassionally [occasionally]. Jacques Lake. Aug [August] 7, 1943. Rode the 22 + miles from Rocky Forks in 7 hrs [hours] 45 minutes. A most uninteresting day. Scattered along the east side of Rocky River all the way down are
