  • Healy Cr. [Creek] June 20/43. [1943] Stayed around camp most of today, intermittent rain all night + until noon. Worked on the goat shot yesterday until mid afternoon + then walked over the flats from Healy Creek to about 1 1/2 miles west of camp + as far north as the Bow River. Many beaver lodges in small backwaters from the bow. Some beautiful spruce stands of the open type + many aspen thickets. Found remains of 2 elk one a juvenile + 1 deer. Found a black bear recently dead. Game seen. 4 mule deer 1 elk 1 moose. Healy Cr. [Creek], June 21/43 [1943] Left camp at 9:30 + went up Redearth cr. [creek] as far as the end of the fire road, by truck then hiked in to Shadow Lake. There are some good slides on the west side of the creek up about 4-5 miles but they don't amount to much in area + do not look like a winter or early spring proposition. The region around Shadow Lake is an open subalpine Englemann Spruce forest with some balsam, + muskeg meadows along the stream.
