Mt [Mount] Arrowsmith:- May 24-26/40 [1940].
At 3000 ft [feet] took two small
toads actively hopping along the
trail at 10 AM - temp [temperature] about
36 [degree symbol] in the shade. During the
night these two were subjected
to a temperature of 18 [degree symbol] F. [Fahrenheit] +
became torpid. They remained
in this condition at 22 [degree symbol] F [Fahrenheit] but
at 26 [degree symbol] showed some slight
activity.
A large toad was taken
from a pond at 4200'
where water temperature was
30 [degree symbol] F [Fahrenheit] at mid day on May 26.
with the air temperature 26 [degree symbol].
This specimen was very
active.
