- Ascaphus [Tailed frog] (contd [continued])
July 11/42 [1942] Female Ascaphus collected on
June 2 at Sunshine Creek was
found dead to-day. Apparently
it had escaped from its tank
+ died of dessication in display
case - The specimen was not
observed to feed while in captivity.
Aug [August] 11 [1942] Received today a bottle containing
20 larvae of Ascaphus from
Dan Leawens [Leavens?] at Cultus Lake.
No data as yet concerning time +
place of collection. Most of
them had hind limb buds in various
stages of development; 2 had front
legs as well. Measured as follows
1 32.5 no buds 11. 42.5 buds longer than flap
2 40 buds as long as flaps 12 39
3 39 " 13 42
4 39 " 14 40.5 hind legs 7
5 41 " 15 41.5 7
6 42 " 16 43 8.5
7 40 " 17 40.5 8.5
8 42 buds slightly larger than flaps 18 41.5 11
9 40.5 " 19 40.5 15 front legs

Flap refers to scale-like structure which covers
base of hind limb buds.
