- Bufo boreas - Toad.
June 26/42 [1942] - Many toads were seen
at Mason's swamp 2 miles from camp
Most were small, possibly last year's crop;
2 were larger (one collected).
Tadpoles were present in large numbers
but only at far end (west end?) and
in very shallow water.
June 27 - Toads of small size are
common along the shores of Lac la Hache;
occasionally one is seen in the water
several yards from shore.
Tadpoles about 3/4 inch long
were seen in some numbers in
the swamp on "Forbes point"; one
mile S.E. [southeast] of Forbes farm house.
June 29 - Very large numbers of
tadpoles were seen in Cummings
lake (about Mile 150). They were con-
gregated about the south end where
blue-green algae + other plants were
decomposing. In one small area in
the stinking mass numbers of tadpoles
were dead and dying.
Red-coloured Daphnia in immense swarms
were present in this end of the lake.
Tadpoles were exceedingly numerous in Jones lake
(mile 148) in swarms + long strings. Hind legs
well developed.
