  • March 10/42 [1942] The eggs of A. macrodactylum [underlined] [long-toed salamander], collected at Langford Pond were kept in the basement of the Museum. On this date the embryos are well formed, with tail fin, + gills and capable of wiggling. March 25 [1942] Visited Musclow at Canoe Cove; he has a specimen of Sail fish (Nautichthys oculofasciatus [sailfin sculpin]) in submerged crate. Eggs also found in crate. These undoubtedly fish eggs + snice [since] no other fish could get in, they are probably from above fish. Two eggs measure 4.6, 4.5, 4.6 mm [millimeter] in diam [diameter]. Colour - yellow-amber - appear to be unfertile. Adhesive; in clumps of several hundred each. March 26 [1942] - Violet green swallows observed for first time this season around Buildings. March 29 [1942] - Saw crow killing snake. Near Ross Bay Cemetery. March 30 [1942] White Crowned Sparrows noted for first time this season in the city Visited Rithet pond near Goddards to collect fresh frog eggs for photographing + formed eggs of Ambystoma macrodactylum [underlined] [long-toed salamander] attached to a twig. 10 embryos near hatching. Few Eubranchipus [underlined] [Eubranchipud oregonus - Oregon fairy shrimp] left.
