- March 10/42 [1942] The eggs of A. macrodactylum [underlined] [long-toed salamander], collected
at Langford Pond were kept in the
basement of the Museum. On this date
the embryos are well formed, with
tail fin, + gills and capable of wiggling.
March 25 [1942] Visited Musclow at Canoe Cove; he has a
specimen of Sail fish (Nautichthys oculofasciatus [sailfin sculpin])
in submerged crate. Eggs also found in crate.
These undoubtedly fish eggs + snice [since] no other fish
could get in, they are probably from above fish.
Two eggs measure 4.6, 4.5, 4.6 mm [millimeter] in diam [diameter].
Colour - yellow-amber - appear to be unfertile.
Adhesive; in clumps of several hundred each.
March 26 [1942] - Violet green swallows observed for
first time this season around Buildings.
March 29 [1942] - Saw crow killing snake. Near Ross Bay Cemetery.
March 30 [1942] White Crowned Sparrows noted for first time
this season in the city
Visited Rithet pond near Goddards to collect
fresh frog eggs for photographing + formed eggs
of Ambystoma macrodactylum [underlined] [long-toed salamander] attached
to a twig. 10 embryos near hatching.
Few Eubranchipus [underlined] [Eubranchipud oregonus - Oregon fairy shrimp] left.
