the Rocky Mt. [Mountain] birds
4 Crossbill (not white winged)
2. Short-Tailed Chickadee
5. Long Tailed Chickadee [Black-capped]
2. Ruby crowned Kinglet
2. Canada Jay.
2. Alaskan 3-toed Woodpeckers.
Today - fine until late afternoon
then cloudy + a shower at 6:30
Followed creek draining west
from Cabin at mile 18. About
1/2 mile down began to find
quite a lot of last winters
caribou sign. Circled north
descending onto boggy meadow
of about 5 acres in extent.
Here Kalmia, white violets
+ anemones grew in profusion
together with the broad leaved
saxifrage.
Found a colony of small
microtines in the long grass
of this meadow + set about
40 traps. Food apparently
grass, kalmia + saxifrage.
Today took 2 Pine Grosbeak. Traps
unproductive except for 3 ground-
squirrels.
