- Long-tailed Jaeger.
68 [degree symbol] 31' [minutes], 135 [degree symbol], 55' [minutes] June 27/47 [1947].
Found a nest containing a newly hatched
chick + collected it + both parents.
The chick had left the nest + was
scrambling about over the lichens.
Nest a hollow 1 1/2" [inches] deep 6" [inches] across in
the lichen on a dry knoll in a
wet meadow occupied by 3 pairs
of Hudsonian curlew. The adults were
very active flying much like falcons
+ with a superlative ability to hover
or to remain motionless, hanging
on the air. I found the shell 100 yds [yards]
from the nest, a dull olive color
lightly spotted with medium brown.
