  • Goldstream Lake, B.C. [British Columbia] April 16, 1940. Food:- Worked two-three year old burn north of Mavis Lake. Practically no fir reproduction. Salal, berberis, sword fern, hard fern + R. macropetala [Rubus macropetalus] [underlined] provide the bulk of the winter food available together with, at the edge of the burn blowdown cedar + fir + some cedar in the swamps. All the above are heavily browsed Swamp fauna at the moment consists of: * = eaten. ** extensively 16 *Cardamine kamschatica [kamtschatica] - abundant 17 *Mitella pentandra - common 18 *Galium sp. [species] abundant. 19 Epilobium ? adenocaulon abundant. 20 *Polygonum sp. [species] 21 Veronica sp. [species] ** Grasses + small sedges. Viola palustris *Oenanthe 22 Asplenium Felix foemina [underlined] [filix-femina] Around the edge of the lake the cat tail + water buttercup had been eaten, the latter even when 3 inches below the surface. A single red elder had been browsed
