- as Crossbill + Evening grosbeak
come to the water once a day -
at daybreak. The mourning doves
come once a day - a dusk.
Yesterday evening saw a poor will
+ 20+ nighthawks. Heard Horned
owl.
Set out 2 steel + 25 more mouse
traps. Shot a brown bat.
Anarchist Mt. [Mountain] B.C. [British Columbia]
June 22, 1936.
Finally caught a jumping mouse -
also 4 Peromyscus + 2 M. [Microtus] mordax.
Shot a chipmunk + squirrel. Lots
of young Columbian groundsquirrel
out, around camp young + old alike
have become exceedingly tame.
Mice are exceedingly scarce here
this year - even Perys [Peromyscus].
Saw a large Varying Hare,
dark brown with white feet
Had a long, tedious chase after
what I took to be a Magnolia
Warbler. When I finally shot
it out of a tall fir it
proved to be a Lazuli Bunting.
First time I ever saw one
behave in this fashion
