Tlell. June 1/51 [1951]
This morning the fisheries officer
Jack Hitchcock took me over to
the mouth of the Deena River. It
is an excellent place for deer +
bear. We were late getting there
but saw 2 does + a great deal
of sign. There is a broad Delta
3/4 mile wide + 1/2 mile or so long
grass + weed grown with alder +
spruce in the drier areas.
In the evening hor [word crossed out] hired a
car from Sergius DeBussy +
drove to the Dunes here.
Saw 5 [male symbol] 3 [female symbol] 3 yrl [yearlings] on route
Deena 2 [female symbol].
Total 5 5 3 = 13 for day
all in good condition
Tlell. June 2/51. [1951]
Went to Gold Cr [Creek] Mallory [word crossed out] Mayer Lake + spent all
day in the muskegs there. Plenty of
beaver work along the lake shore
on w. [west] side half a mile from outlet.
Walked as far as entrance of Woodfill Cr. [Creek]
Deer sign very abundant.
Mr Kim Richardson tells me that
the deer have completely altered the
undergrowth along the Tlell + Gold C. [Creek]
There used to be a heavy undergrowth
of salmonberry + salal respectively
