Southesk Lake. July 17, 1944.
At head of creek running in from
the north just below Southesk Lake
found a fine sheep basin. Not
much sign of heavy utilization
but saw 4 ewes + 5 rams.
Over on the head of Restless River
saw 2 more rams.
Rocky Forks. July 21/44.[1944]
At the head of Deception Creek
saw 17 sheep (1 - 2 yr [year] [male symbol], 1. yr [year] [female symbol] 15 ewes)
No lambs in the outfit. I shot
what I took to be an old [female symbol] +
found it to be the 2 yr [year] [male symbol].
This animal shows a necrotic
condition of one upper right molar
Medicine Lake. July 23, 1944
Ed [Edward] Macdonald tells me that there always
used to be some big rams in
summer in a big basin off the
siwash trail between Isaac Creek +
the Southesk. He has never seen
sheep on the bald hills west of the
Southesk.
Maligne Lake. July 24/44 [1944]
On sheep winter range north
of cabin found the remains of 2
rams, 1 dead this year one 1943.
The horns of one were gone, but its
teeth were good, the other one was 10 yrs [years]
old, abcess in lower jaw, horns 37 x 37 1/2
