- All baggage should be roped for safety. Bedding should be wrapped in waterproof material.
c) Property not to be taken to Civil Assembly Centre:
This fills under two categories, as follows:-
i) Articles prohibited to be moved under Article III of the Japanese Army and Navy Commanders in Chief. Proclamation of 13th. November 1942, or in previous proclamations – see Japanese Consulate General Notification, Paragraph 3 (B) and 3 (C). These must remain where they are except beds and bedding. (See paragraph 3 (b) of this memo)
ii) Other Property.
(A) Genuine Jewellery, Silverware, Souvenirs, etc.
The Swiss Consulate General in charge of American and British interests are prepared to accept, for safe keeping, limited quantities of personal effects consisting of -
x) Genuine Jewellery.
y) Silverware and Souvenirs.
The above two categories must be packed separately and packages should be marked with the owner’s name and passport number. A list in duplicate of the contents must be attached to each parcel which, in order to comply with the Japanese regulations, must be delivered open at the British Consulate Compound, back entrance (opposite 169 Yuen Ming Yuen Road) at a time and date which may be ascertained at the Civil Assembly Office.
The Swiss Consulate General, in accepting these deposits, cannot assume any responsibility whatsoever. Insurance, if desired, must be arranged by the respective owners of the deposits.
(B) All other property can be sold or disposed of at the owner’s discretion and may be moved unhindered through the streets without permit. Property under this category which is not disposed of or sold can be either-
1) Left where it is in your home (see paragraph 4 of this memo re lists to be submitted)
2) Sent to Messrs. G.E. Marden’s & Co. No. 15 Godown, Race Course Market. Such packages are to be numbered clearly, marked with the owner’s name, entrance number, and Civil Assembly Centre and should be labelled in one or other of these ways:-
