- Nairobi June 22/67 [1967]
Arrived at 8AM by East African Airlines. Good trip.
Most impressed with the green ness of the country after the heavy
rains they had here in May. Mean rainfall is 34 (20-60).
Coldest record 42, hottest 90. Rains are concentrated.
On way in from airport we detoured into
Nairobi National Park. The grass is tall 18" [inches] + extremely lush for
this area. In the course of an hour or more we saw many
crested larks, several white-winged plover, one spur fowl
(yellow necked francolin) a pair of crowned cranes with 2 new
hatched young. All four swam across a small pond (lake)
Several Egyptian gess [geese] landed on the same pond.
Big game fascinated me abundant species were
Thompson + Grant gazelle, Congoni [Kongoni], wildebeest, zebra, giraffe
Bristol is studying the giraffe + can recognize each individual
by neck pattern
