July 23 [1931] Arrived at Chezacut Lake [underlined].
At about 6 in the evening + set
up the small tent had supper
+ retired for the night. Mr
[Kenneth] Racey set out 6 mouse traps +
had a navigator shrew by dark.
3 Pelicans were feeding on the Lake.
July 24 [1931] Spent the morning setting
up camp. Pitched the big tent
etc. etc. [etcetera etcetera] In the afternoon Mr [Kenneth] Racey
and I launched the dug out canoe
+ went across the lake to
the south shore. I set out a
short line of mouse traps
+ two muskrat traps. The mouse
sign does not look very promising
but there are a few small voles
around. Rabbit sign plentiful
also bear + moose.
Saw Bohemian Waxwing [underlined], Ruffed Grouse,
Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow, Yellowlegs
(Herring Gull?) Flicker, Savannah Sp. [Sparrow]
Barn Swallow, Bald Eagle; Fish hawk.
Mr [Kenneth] Racey took a 4 very large voles.
Deer plentiful.
July 25 [1931]. My Traps held a male Synaptomys
an adult male Microsorex, a large
vole and a fine dark muskrat
Stuart [Stewart Racey] took a couple of voles and
a Jumping Mouse; Alan [Racey] - a juv. [juvenile]
Shrew a peromyscus + a couple of
voles.
