- and left the "Nautilus III" to
the mercy of the elements. It
was still there this afternoon
when Nancy [Mahoney] and Tim [Miles Timothy Myres] went down
the lake to watch grebes, and
get planking for the raft.
They left me behind this
afternoon, so I collected plants
at the small lake behind Westwick.
The larger field wild flowers are
in bud now. The violets seem
to be more or less sharply
defined as to colour in some
places. At the shore of Westwick
they are predominantly pale
while above, by the smaller
lake, they are nearly all darker.
Westwick Lake Wednesday, May 23, 1955.
Weather: overcast
Nancy and I beat Tim [Miles Timothy Myres] up by about an
hour this morning. We spent most of
the day writing. Tim [Miles Timothy Myres] floored the raft.
Mrs. Thursday has not deserted, and
Matilda laid 2 eggs. A swallow has
been building a nest in Matilda's
nest box. It goes in and out
without touching the recorder.
Tim [Miles Timothy Myres] saw 3 black terns on Westwick,
and Nancy [Mahoney] and I saw a Chipping
Sparrow in front of the tent.
