Fuel Saver
If you put on a mixture of Chalk
and Salt on top of a coal fire,
you will save 2/3 fuel. Use
68 parts common Salt to 32
parts of powdered chalk. But
if used in large quantities,
the sulphur in the coal, forms
sulphurous acid, which when
mixed with the chalk & [and] salt,
forms sulphite of Soda and
Hydrochloric Acid, which is very
destructive to tree life, when
diseminated through the air

water will get to it, use Jefferys
cement. 1 part India Rubber, 12
parts coal Tar, 2 parts asphaltum.
The rubber is dissolved in the Coal Tar,
and the asphaltum added

Cement for Leather
To be used hot. Gutta percha 100
parts. Black pitch or Asphaltum 100
parts. Oil of Turpentine 15 parts.

Cement for Boot Soles
10 paarts of gutta percha in 100 parts
of Benzine. The clear solution from
this is poured into another bottle
containing 100 parts of Linseed oil
Varnish and well shaken together.

Cement for Leather
Bisulphide of Carbon 10 parts,
Oil of turpentine 1 part, and in
this dissolve enough gutta percha
to form a paste. Clean the
leather, by putting on a piece of
Rag, and running a hot iron
over it, to remove grease. use pressure

Cement for Shoemakers
Cut up pure Rubber into small pieces.
Fill up a bottle to 1/10 of its capacity,
then pour on good Benzine till 2/3
full. Keep til dissolved and thick.

Cement for Rubber Boots
Catchouc [cautchouc] 10 parts, Chloroform 280
parts, dissolve, then Catchouc [cautchouc]
10 parts, Resin 4 parts, oil of turpentine
40 parts, mix both together.
