July 24/36 [1936] Ootsa.
Trapping poor, night cold +
windy with intermittent thunder.
2 Microtus, 1 Peromyscus, 1 Neotoma,
2 Eutamias, shot a [male symbol] Junco.
Noticed that warbling vireos are
common, no red-eyed ".
Saw 3 long-tailed chickadee, 2
chipping sparrows, 2 Audubon
warblers + 5 Juncos.
There are a few skunks here,
I examined the skin of a Mephitis
at [Norman] Shreiber's store. Fox + Coyote
are common, also wolves, An
occassional [occasional] Fisher is taken between
Ootsa + Francois. Muskrats.
July 25/36. [1936] Ootsa.
Found remains of 3 rabbits
a pack rat skull + a coyote skull.
Lots of red crossbills in muskeg.
Saw 2 sharp-shin hawks. The
chipping sparrows are flocking
now. saw about 40 together [last two lines underlined]
Shot an old [female symbol] spruce grouse, it
had a family of grown young.
