- Duncan B.C. [British Columbia] Sept [September] 29, 1939
Starting at 5:30, fog + smoke later
clearing + bright sun, woods
tinder dry, Temp early [word crossed out] at sun-
up 46 [degree symbol] at 2 pm 70 [degree symbol]
Census. On Mt [Mount] Tzuhalem [Tzouhalem] considerable
sign on the skid roads but
in 6 hours hunting we jumped
5 deer of which we saw
3, two of them [male symbol]'s.
We could find no deer in
the timber, they were all sleeping
in the slash.
Activity Deer were difficult to approach,
2 of them jumped at about 300
yards, others at 15 yards or so
but where the bush was
very thick. Others lay until
walked up.
We sat on a log and talked
on a log within 15 yards of
a spike who after 20 minutes
rose + trotted out into view
seemingly unaware of our presence
When shot this deer had a cut in
its mouth, bladder + colon full.
Evidently they do not urinate
when lying down.
The wind was ours in both cases.
