- Ovis canadensis.[underlined]
rams went off on the run. I
dont think they could see the coyotes
from where they were so the
reaction was probably to the whistler
alarm.
Winter Range - There is positive sign
of wintering on several of the S. [south] facing
slopes with the tufted sedge heavily
browsed. At the same time there is
an absence of winter kills that
puzzles me.
So far I have noticed that the
ewes + lambs keep to the more
Rocky areas of the range.
Cairn Cabin. July 14, 1944.
Today checked north to the pass + on
the west side saw 11 rams + 4 ewes.
On the east side checked the ewe bands
+ counted 41 ewes + yearlings, 21 lambs
I think these last have all been
counted before + 11 additional[underlined]
One 4 yr [year] ram + 1 [female symbol] crossed valley
east to west today.
We have now checked 108 rams -
probably almost all these are here -
+ only 5 of them have been 12 yrs [years] or
older - Only two really old.
Did the boundary run down this river
until 1930 +/- + is this the explanation
of the age of this herd.
